Task 1 - Road Signs

One of the most interesting things we looked at in the previous session was how road signs have progressed of time. Road signs have always been very simple and need to be simple so they can be understood whilst a person is driving. If a road sign needs too much attention this could end up being dangerous with the road user potentially losing concentration whilst driving. Easily recognisable signs used to be used such as warning that a train crossing is coming up by using a train symbol. Capital letters also used to be used for all text included on these signs but was then changed as it can become hard to read. The text was changed so that a capital letter is only used at the start and instead of having a pole with various signs giving directions simple lines are used to direct drivers with the names of locations easily readable.
